Why You Matter

Become a Competitive Events Judge

At the Oregon DECA State Career Development Conference (SCDC), the best and brightest high school students from across the state gather to showcase the skills they’ve been building all year. As a judge, you’ll experience these students’ talent firsthand as they present innovative business plans, tackle on-the-spot case studies, and role-play real-world scenarios. Your role is simple yet impactful: evaluate their performance using the provided guidelines and help determine which students advance to the International Career Development Conference. With nearly 60 competitive events across industries like finance, marketing, entrepreneurship, hospitality, and fashion, there’s a place for your professional perspective—no matter your background.

The Impact of Volunteering

When you volunteer as a judge, you’re doing more than scoring a competition—you’re investing in the next generation of leaders. DECA students work tirelessly inside and outside the classroom to prepare for this moment, raising their own funds to attend and dedicating countless hours to refining their skills. By giving just a half-day of your time, you’ll provide them with the authentic feedback and encouragement they need to grow. You don’t need special qualifications—just a willingness to listen and support motivated students as they step into their future careers. Judges consistently tell us the experience is inspiring, rewarding, and one they want to return to again and again.

“Please sign me up to help with the upcoming DECA conference. I was, to say the least, very impressed with the program and the professional job that DECA does preparing its participants for the retail and marketing fields.”

Dan Magruder, District Manager, Smart & Final.
