State Career Development Conference - Be There!

Are you ready for Oregon DECA's biggest conference of the year? The State Career Development Conference, or SCDC, is just around the corner, and we cannot wait to see you there!

During SCDC, you get to put all of the valuable information and business skills you’ve learned throughout the year to the test.  You compete in role plays or written events that are directed to your specific fields of interest such as marketing, finance, hospitality and tourism.  And if you’re worried about competing because this is your first year, first year DECA members always have the opportunity to compete in principle events which have to do with a broader set of business skills.  You have been preparing all year in your business classes and SCDC is the place to shine!

The conference is from February 22nd to the 24th at the Red Lion Hotel in Jantzen Beach, Oregon.  The first day students arrive, members will take their respective exam and in the evening and then opening session takes place.  During the next two days, members will be competing, with a mini awards session on Monday, followed by a grand awards/closing session on Tuesday where you will find out if you made it to the International Career Development Conference.  This year, ICDC is in Orlando, Florida from April 25th to the 28th.  ICDC is always an amazing experience for members to represent Oregon and have a great time at places like Disneyworld and Universal Studios. You must attend SCDC in order to go on to Internationals!

While the main focus of this conference may be competition, it is definitely not all work and no play.  You are able to meet so many different people, make new friends and create lasting memories.  In between events, members spend time with their friends and are able to go to a few planned activities available on Monday night.  The state conference is truly an awesome experience where you will learn and have tons of fun!

Westview DECA member Jennifer Rouse said that “SCDC showed me how DECA is more than a club at school, but a community.”  When asked what he thought about the state conference, Cameron Alwes, the Vice President of Communications for Oregon DECA, stated “SCDC was an incredible experience that provided me with the opportunity to network, learn, and compete.”

This is an opportunity you don’t want to miss!  Make sure you’re registered online at  We look forward to seeing you there!
