OLI 2019 DECA Presentation

On November 1st, 2019, Vanisa Khamkhosy (VP of Hospitality), Arthur Khamkhosy (VP of Finance) and Kannah Greer (VP of Career Development) prepared and presented a workshop at the Oregon Leadership Institute, hosted at Rogue Community College. The interactive workshop, “Networking for Newbies,” provides insight on how to initiate, develop, and maintain healthy interpersonal relationships. For those who weren’t at the conference, here’s a recap of the workshop and the main takeaways! For those who were at the conference, here’s a refresher on how to network.

  1. Approaching People

    1. Leave a good first impression

    2. Smile and offer a firm handshake

    3. Relate the conversation to some sort of commonality

    4. Learn their name! (and try to remember it)

    2. Chat about your shared interests

    3. Ask “below the surface” questions

  3. Connecting After

    1. Social media is important!

      1. Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn

    2. Change your profile to a “business account”

    3. Stay professional and appropriate with posts

    4. Post often and with engaging captions

    5. Be an active follower

      1. Like and comment on others’ posts!

    6. Don’t be afraid to reach out and say hi!
