A Year in Oregon DECA (2015-2016)

Oregon DECA has accomplished great strides in the DECA Universe in the 2015-2016 school year! Oregon DECA had more participants at the International DECA Conference than ever before, breaking a state record! Thanks to our staff, advisors and members, Oregon DECA, once again has had an amazing year. Starting the year off with local completions, leadership trainings, state competitions, and ending the year at ICDC, we really excelled in 2015-2016.

Oregon DECA started off the year in November with the Oregon Leadership Conference (OLI), in Bend, Oregon. OLI helped Oregon DECA members, and fellow CTSO members from around the state develop their leadership skills further. After OLI, DECA held district competitions within Oregon DECA's 3 districts. The students took what they learned in district competitions, and developed their skills further to compete at SCDC in February 2016. A

t SCDC, over 800 Oregon DECA members competed in their chosen business scenario role-plays, written events, or business presentations.

Oregon DECA members also voted in a new State Officer team as the following students: Aroon Nagappan, President; Dhrushil Patel, Communications VP; Sneha Malineni, Public Relations VP; Joni Castillo, District 1 VP; Patrick Davis, District 2 VP; and Brian Josephson, District 3 VP. SCDC also narrowed down the competitive event winners who would be eligible to compete at the International Career and Development Conference (ICDC) in Nashville, TN. Over two hundred members from Oregon competed at ICDC. Oregon had 46 event finalists, and 39 top-ten finalists.

Oregon DECA achieved some big goals this year, and are working hard to set even bigger goals in membership, community service, and member involvement on social media. Thank you Oregon DECA for a great 2015-2016 school year, congratulations to all of our seniors who are graduating, and let 2016-2017 begin!
