What is DECA? Helping New Members Understand Who We Are.

Founded in 1946, DECA prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges around the globe.  DECA is designed to work within classrooms so that students gain skills they need to compete in class.  Every year, students will get the chance to put their business and leadership skills to the test at competitions ranging from the district to the international level.  Members also get the chance to learn skills through various non-competitive conferences and events such as WRLC, the DECA New York Experience or The Ultimate DECA Power Trip in DC.

For Oregon DECA members, district skills events and the Oregon leadership institute are the first chances to attend an official DECA event.  At district skills, Oregon DECA members from your district come together to practice and prepare for the State Conference in the spring.  At OLI, members are able to attend various leadership workshops with Oregon DECA members as well as other CTSO (Career Technical Student Organization) members.

The main event for most states/provinces is their State Career Development Conference.  Taking place in February, Oregon’s SCDC is the place for you to test your business knowledge for a chance to compete at the International Career Development Conference, taking place in Orlando, Florida this year.  There are a number of competitive events in which you can compete in; be sure to check out the list of events on DECA’s website.  At internationals, you get the chance to compete with members from all over the world or attend one of the awesome leadership workshops that DECA has to offer.

DECA is an amazing opportunity that you do not want to miss out on.  You make so many lasting memories and friendships, just talk to any existing DECA members at you school!  Make this school year awesome by registering for DECA!
