Interested in Running for State Office?

If you ask any previous or current State Officer they will tell you that serving Oregon DECA as a State Officer is one of their greatest accomplishments and most valuable high school experiences. Anyone who is even slightly interested in running for state office, should do it. Serving as a State Officer has been, without a doubt, one of the greatest experiences ever.

The best part about becoming a state officer is that any DECA member who is motivated, loves DECA and is willing to learn and work hard can run and be successful. Factors like how large your chapter is, or how much money you can invest in your campaign should never be deciding factors as to whether or not you run. What matters is if you are willing to put in the effort to market yourself as one of the next great leaders of Oregon DECA.

As a State Officer you will gain valuable leadership skills, meet friends from all over the country, and be able to give back to a great organization. Being a State Officer will allow you to accomplish things you never dreamed possible. From traveling, advancing your leadership and professionalism skills, to becoming a great well rounded leader, serving as an Oregon DECA state officer will change your life. Being a state officer allows you to learn from other DECA members, top professionals, and amazing coaches.

This year brings a few new changes to the state officer positions. We have added a Vice President of Communication (for those that love social media and/or have videography skills) and Vice President of Public Relations (for those that have photography and/or design skills and/or experience or desire to work with the press) in place of Secretary/Treasurer and Publicity Director. These new positions incorporate social media, videography, design skills and photography. On top of those positions, we have the District Vice Presidents and Presidential position. Check out the Oregon DECA State Officer Candidate Guide for more information.

Finally I say to all the leaders of Oregon DECA, you will never regret the decision of running for State Office. Anyone who has been through the process would agree. If you have any questions about running for State Office, please feel free to contact any current State Officers as they would love to answer any questions you have!
